flydubai has included the capital of Azerbaijan in its Holidays by flydubai packages, offering passengers the option of spending the Ramadan holiday in Baku. Also from May, the number of flights between Dubai and Baku will increase to four per day. Jeyhun Efendi, senior vice president of business operations and e-commerce at flydubai, spoke to AZERTAC about this innovation and others.
-How popular is the route between Baku and Dubai and the increase in tourist flows?
-We started flying to Baku in 2009. Azerbaijan has remained a popular destination for flydubai passengers over the years, especially during the winter months. Many people travel to take advantage of the wide range of winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. Many also travel to Baku to experience the cultural fusion, the old town and the many UNESCO World Heritage sites. We see a high demand for flights between Baku and Dubai also during the spring break season, when we offered up to four daily flights. And during the upcoming Eid holiday in early May, we expect a further increase in travel demand between the two countries. flydubai has included the capital of Azerbaijan in its Holidays by flydubai holiday packages, offering passengers not only flights but also hotel rooms. Therefore, the number of flights will be increased to four per day.
Dubai, meanwhile, remains the preferred destination for passengers arriving from Baku. By expanding our codeshare partnership with Emirates, we are providing passengers with seamless connectivity within the common network, allowing more passengers to visit Dubai and beyond.
– flydubai also intends to promote its home country, Dubai, as a tourist destination. What are the advantages for your passengers in this regard?
-The Holidays by flydubai concept offers a range of competitive travel packages offering passengers easy and affordable travel to any destination. Customers can access Holidays by flydubai as a one-stop-shop to search and book holiday packages including flights, hotels and additional services such as airport transfers, travel insurance and more. In this way, we give our passengers the possibility to plan trips according to their needs and to include all the extras in one booking.
-Despite the ongoing pandemic, many travel destinations are becoming affordable again, thanks to the opening of borders and the lifting of restrictions. What impact has the COVID-19 pandemic had on flydubai’s operations in 2021 and what outlook do you see for 2022?
– In 2021, we continue to tackle COVID-19 and its impact on the aviation industry. As travel restrictions continue to ease, our passengers are realizing that travel is possible, which is reflected in the growing number of weekly flights we operate.
Our network has grown considerably over the past year. In 2021, 22 destinations joined the flydubai network. Thanks to the efforts of our teams, we now serve more destinations than before the pandemic. At the height of the summer tourist season, we served 118 destinations and our seasonal summer services were very popular with passengers.
This year, we will receive 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which will support the future growth of the airline. This is the highest number of aircraft delivered each year since the airline’s launch. We will also increase flight frequency and introduce new destinations to our network in 2022. Overall, as flight restrictions on our network continue to ease and demand increases, we can be cautiously optimistic about the future.
-What measures has flydubai taken to make travel as safe as possible during a pandemic? Are innovations planned in this area?
-While travel restrictions continue to be relaxed, we recognize that traveling during a pandemic has become more difficult. For passenger convenience, flydubai has modified its service system to minimize contact between crew and passengers, ensuring a safe travel experience.
We also encourage our passengers to familiarize themselves with the IATA Travel Center and IATA Destination Tracking System regulations throughout their journey and to follow the instructions of the authorities and the airline. We are also providing additional information in our COVID-19 call center, available at flydubai.com.
-Recently, flydubai launched an innovation: an online duty free shop. What is it and how have your passengers received it?
-We are always looking to add new features to improve our onboard experience and give passengers more choice when traveling with us. The launch of the flydubai online store reflects this commitment, as we give passengers the opportunity to purchase various items before their flight. Your purchases will be delivered directly on board, making shopping online even more enjoyable and effortless.
