Barcelona has been the most visited city in Spain in recent years. And, in fact, one of the most visited in the world. And no one is surprised: it’s wonderful. There is a Barcelona for all travellers, whatever their hobbies or passions. Its modernist architecture, its history, its charming districts, its beaches, its gastronomy…
Any excuse is good to escape to Barcelona. And of course, if you can and want to experience the city in a luxurious way, pay homage, we recommend the 5 best 5-star hotels we have found. From the upper zone, passing through the district of Gracia and Las Ramblas, we offer you an itinerary and a stay at the best value for money:
At the top
El Mirlo Boutique Hotel
We start this tour in the upper part of Barcelona. The less touristy. The calmest. We are not located almost on the slopes of Tibidabo mountain. It is an excellent option for those looking to be close to the center -10 minutes by metro- but without the hustle and bustle of the heart of the city, without so many traffic jams and where you can breathe a little more oxygenated air.
Obviously, there aren’t many options for staying in this part of Barcelona. Or there are so many. One of them, little known, is this formidable mansion built in 1918 on Tibidabo Avenue. It’s very exclusive. There are only 16 rooms, some of them also have their own garden or terrace. Out of curiosity, to say that it was renamed in the famous novel “The Shadow of the Wind” with the name of Palacete Aldaya, where the protagonist solves the riddle that ends the plot.
What do travelers think? Ratings for this hotel, as a rule, are very high. There are not many yet, but they are all very positive. On Booking.com they give it a rating of 9.3 out of 10 and on Google a rating of 4.9 out of 5 (almost perfect). Many comments highlight the service of the hotel restaurant, El Nido del Mirlo, run by chef Ismael Alonso.

in the district of Gracia
If we descend towards the sea, we will pass through several interesting areas of Barcelona. One of them is Grace. It’s authentic. Ideal for strolling through its alleys, its squares, its markets… it is one of the liveliest areas of the city. In addition, let’s not forget that it is home to places of great interest such as Gaudí’s Park Güell and where they celebrate one of the busiest festivals in Barcelona in mid-August: the Gracia festival, where the streets are decorated, there are music concerts and a lot of fun.
Strategically located in the neighborhoods of Gracia, San Gervasi and Eixample, Casa Fuster is an excellent option for those who love the modernist style. In this sense, it is a work of art. It is a Grand Luxury Monument category property and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The interior is magnificent. Precious. The rooms are very bright and decorated with exquisite taste. Every Thursday, by the way, exclusive jazz concerts are presented. In fact, it is the place chosen by Woody Allen to hold his concerts in Barcelona.
What do travelers think? In general, it is highly appreciated by users. They give it a 4.5 out of 5 on Google (with over 2,000 reviews) and an 8.9 out of 10 on Booking.com, where they give it a very high rating for the comfort of its beds.

In the Paseo de Gracia
We continue through the streets of Barcelona. We cross the Diagonal and go down one of the most emblematic streets, Paseo de Gracia. It is one of the most expensive avenues in Spain. Pure luxury. In its 1,300 meters in length, you can see some of the most beautiful modernist buildings in the city: La Pedrera or Casa Batlló, Casa Amatller or Casa Lleó Morera.
The Mandarin Oriental is located precisely at number 38 Paseo de Gracia, in front of Casa Batlló (some of the 120 rooms and suites have views of this extraordinary facade designed by Gaudi). The interior decoration is carried out by Patricia Urquiola. There’s a rooftop pool, luxury spa, with hot tub, steam room and indoor pool, and the hotel’s 2-star Michelin restaurant, Moments, is served by one of the world’s most award-winning chefs. , Carme Ruscalleda.
What do travelers think? It is a hotel with many awards by travelers in recent years. The reviews are very good. 4.6 out of 5 on Google, 8.9 out of 10 on Booking.com. Almost all agree on the large Spa it has.

In the historic center
From the splendor of the Paseo de Gracia and the Eixample, we pass from the Plaza de Catalunya to the effervescence of the Gothic quarter, in the heart of the Catalan capital. Closer to the beach. In the historic center you will find a wide range of hotels. Everything happens there. Strolling through its narrow streets, seeing shops, museums, restaurants, people of all kinds, it’s a pleasure to stroll through this neighborhood that is so authentically Barcelona.
Between Las Ramblas and La Catedral, we find the Kimpton Vividora hotel, perhaps the least known and with a more affordable price on this list. The rooftop terrace offers great city views as well as a pool, hammocks, cocktails, and portions to share. The Fauna restaurant, overseen by chef Ferrán López, has a vibrant atmosphere and serves local cuisine: its motto is: “Eat like a true Barcelonan”.
What do travelers think? Looking at the reviews on the various hotel platforms, we see how the vast majority of users agree that the service and views from the rooftop are spectacular. On Booking.com they give it an 8.9 out of 10 and on Google a 4.6 out of 5.

And finally we arrive at the sea. There are several famous 5-star hotels facing the sea: the Arts Hotel and the Vela Hotel are two very well known. However, on this occasion, we would like to recommend Hotel Serras. Although it is not so famous and it is not so close to the sea, it is beautiful. In fact, it’s one of the hotels with the best reviews in town. Surprisingly, it seems to be at the top of all luxury hotel rankings. The Hotel Serras is a 19th century building where Pablo Picasso, at the age of 15, had his first studio in 1896.
The 28 rooms are comfortable and elegant. The balconies offer views of the old town, Port Vell and the Mediterranean Sea. One of the very positive aspects is that the hotel offers luxury services, such as airport pick-up service, limousine transfer, concierge or valet parking. In addition, it has an infinity pool. We must not forget its gastronomic offer: the cuisine of the Informel restaurant under the orders of the Catalan chef Marc Gascons, holder of a Michelin star.
What do travelers think? As we said, this establishment has a very good reputation: winner of the Gold List Condé Nast Traveler in 2019 as the best urban hotel in Spain and also winner of the TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice in 2018 as the best luxury hotel in Spain. On Booking.com they rate it 9.6 out of 10 and on Google 4.6 out of 5.
