Brittany Cartwright from Vander’s Bomb Rules was found in the emergency room after having a terrifying allergic reaction while celebrating a friend’s wedding over the weekend.
Cartwright and her husband Jax Taylor shared photos on their Instagram Stories of Cartwright in a hospital bed, puffy-eyed but still cheerful as they rushed to the wedding. Cartwright told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that he thought eating a small piece of kiwi was what triggered the reaction. But now she’s not sure because she continued to have hives weeks after being treated in hospital.
Vanderpump Rules’ Brittany Cartwright had a severe allergic reaction
Cartwright recounted the incident, sharing that she noticed the swelling minutes before she was supposed to join the wedding for photos. “It was the morning of one of my best friend’s wedding. I’m a bridesmaid,” she said. “We are supposed to be ready for photos at 2 p.m. And it’s 1:45 a.m. and I’m going to the emergency room. I was trying to hold on as long as possible. I took the Benadryl and did the normal thing to try to help with the allergic reaction.”
“But my arms and feet started to break out and then my face started to break out,” he continued. “My eyes started to swell and close. I got very scared. And for someone who doesn’t normally have allergic reactions, it’s terrifying. So I feel really bad for people who get it. suffer as it can be painful, itchy and just not good.”
Brittany and Jax came back from the ER in time for the wedding.
Typically, Cartwright was more concerned with disrupting the flow of the wedding or upsetting her friend. “I got scared because my eyes started closing and I didn’t want to scare my friend, who was also five months pregnant and a girlfriend,” she said.
“So I was doing my best not to talk about it too much, but inside I was freaking out,” Cartwright recalled. “My mother was there to take care of my son. So I called my mother. It didn’t matter that I was 33 years old, I always needed my mother to come and comfort me. So my mom came up to the hotel room and I was like, ‘It’s getting worse. It’s not better.
“So I went to the ER and they gave me an IV with all the fluids and all the prescribed meds and whatever they have. And then they put me on steroids and stuff,” he said.
Taylor posted on her Instagram Story that the wedding weekend didn’t go exactly to plan. “We’re in Florida right now, currently in an emergency room,” he captioned a video outside the emergency room. “Yeah that’s okay. Brittany’s in the ER. Things are happening. She’s allergic to kiwi, we just found out.
He joked, “She’s here. Do not worry. All is well. We have our IV bag, we are back at the hotel and I hope the boss is waiting for us.”
She doesn’t know if the kiwi is really the culprit.
Cartwright also remained cheerful about the incident. “Let me have an allergic reaction and end up in the ER on my friend’s wedding day,” she shared on her Instagram Story. Adding: “After an IV, I’m fine.”
At the time, she was convinced that kiwi fruit caused an allergic reaction. “I thought it was kiwi because I bought a tropical fruit mix for Cruz,” she told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “And I haven’t eaten a kiwi in years. I know some people have different allergies as they get older or have babies things change. But I took a little piece of [the kiwi].”

“I thought it was [the kiwi] but now I have no idea,” he said. “Because it continued even after I got home. So it must be something else. So I’m going to have allergy tests.” Luckily, Cartwright didn’t have the same harsh reaction she had before the wedding. But she plans to find out why she still has hives and itches.
“I received [hives] in my hands, in my arms and in the palms of my hands, but I haven’t had them for about two days,” he added.
